Want your own video game magazine and have all the big game companies beg you to cover their latest games before they're released? Want to be wined and dined by Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Rockstar, Capcom, and Konami, to name a few? Want to have your editors flown on all expenses paid press junkets to Japan, the UK and all across the US? Want exclusive-access passes to attend closed, industry-only trade shows, like E3 and GDC? Good luck with that if you're starting from scratch. We've already got what takes years to build right now and it could be yours now instantly.
Yup, this is a new one for gameSniped, an actually fully established video game magazine business - Hardcore Gaming. Now, I'd personally want to see the revenue figures before bidding, but I'm sure the $42,000 opening bid is well worth it.
For your money you get copyrights, registered trademark rights, intellectual property rights, back issues, subscription lists, customer lists, vendor lists, employee contracts, distribution contacts, public relations contacts, advertising contacts, web sites and domain names associated with Hardcore Gamer.
If nothing else it might be a good way to get protos.
I always thought Hardcore Gamer would have been more successful if they didn’t GIVE IT AWAY FOR FREEEEE!
Seriously. Who is going to buy the printed version when they can download the pdf for free? (well besides me because I buy every game magazine).
I personally liked it and would even consider buying the publication if it were around $25k and they threw in the reviewers to work for peanuts until I got things “going”. I think going about selling it on eBay might destroy the HG property though. I can only imagine trying to get review copies from Nintendo, Sony, MS and having them say.. “Oh, so you won the high bid on ebay eh?”…Sorry, we only deal with professional publications”
Someone buy up EGM, NextGen, and DieHard Gamer and make some super publication!
Might be worth picking up now that EGM is closing their doors.
I had a free 6-issue sub to this magazine. It’s not bad – for a print magazine. “Analog Media”, if you will…
Pretty sad.
When i was a kid there where a lot of different gaming magazines in the store.
Today there are just a couple left.
Another result of the internet, people like to watch a online video review instead of reading it.
I don’t think that there is a big future for gaming magazines.
(except the big ones.)
If EGM isn’t one of the big ones then I don’t know any magazines.
