That isn’t a real Super Pacman proto. It’s one of the many that Best Electronics sold over the years. In fact, they still sell them for $16.00 new on their site, along with other reproduction protos.
That’s disappointing, how can you tell them apart?
I agree, something is defintely off with the Super Pacman proto. I just can’t put my finger on why as the pictures aren’t the best…
A real prototype would have an Atari lab label or other markings indicating that’s what it was or no label at all. Best always puts one of those generic labels on theirs. Other than that, you can’t really tell since Best literally has all of the parts that Atari had in their warehouses after they closed down.
I’m surprised no one mentions the fact it says on the label “prototype”. Typed on there too, as if it’s a product to be sold, not written with ink like it was sent off to reviewers or something.
Definitely not a real proto.
Yar, Best goods. Probably would be tough to tell a real proto. Sometimes the stickers on the eproms help, as they have authentic looking dates or whatever, but I’m sure those could be faked with a dot matrix printer. The source may be the only way to really know- like an insider or someone trustworthy.
The seller has cancelled the item, so obviously he or she was caught at her own game. Hopefully, somebody on this site had something to do with that.
To be fair, it was possible that the seller did not realize it wasn’t a real prototype…
UncleBob’s the seller!!!
=p
Gah, another PAL M82. Gimme an NTSC!
