How To Win

Its easy, just figure out which eBay auction would post this personal ad.

Hi there, Im a tough guy. In my younger days, I once took a bullet and Ive also been on fire.
This time around, Im one number away from being evil.
In my spare time, I enjoy breaking codes. Also, Im not a cheap date.

Post the auction title and link as a comment. This seems easy to me, but if its not, Ill post hints later. First correct answer wins.

Once again, you NEED to be registered to win. That's the only way I can confirm your the person who posted and make sure you get your prize. Go here to register.

Side note: Hotmail users are having trouble getting their registration messages. Contact me directly if you cant so I can reset your password and send it to you.

And once again, I'm going to give out the second prize to a random registered person tomorrow morning.

Only one entry per person. If youve won a previous prize, youre disqualified from this contest, unless youd rather have this prize instead of the original one.

Good luck!

I am so lost on this one but thanks for updating at all hours of the day/night.

  2. tyhana on December 13th, 2007 2:15 am

Heh, and to think, I was just about to log off for the night, lol. Boy, I really don’t have a life…

    Too bad I don’t have a clue either… lol.

  3. lilming on December 13th, 2007 2:49 am

    eh, no idea either.

  4. Speed on December 13th, 2007 2:54 am

I think another hint is going to be needed.

  5. 898 on December 13th, 2007 2:58 am

I’m lost but I feel I need to try something.
    PS3
Hi there, I’m a tough guy. (its big)
In my younger days, I once took a bullet (PSX)
and Ive also been on fire. (PS2)
This time around, Im one number away from being evil. (4 sounds like death in Chinese)
In my spare time, I enjoy breaking codes. (PS3 used in colleges for number crunching)
Also, Im not a cheap date. ($600)

I know every one of these is a stretch and not even close to what I am thinking but I tried something.

  6. jasonc on December 13th, 2007 3:01 am

@898 – the only one there that seems like a stretch is the chinese one

  7. tyhana on December 13th, 2007 3:04 am

    That’s better than what I got… Nothing… lol.

Find any PS3 references to 665? (one number away from 666, that’s sure an evil number, mwhahahahaha! lol)

  8. lilming on December 13th, 2007 3:04 am

    @898
Nice one, that just might be it. Ive been trying to think of old game characters the whole time.

  9. tyhana on December 13th, 2007 4:05 am

Alright, I have to go to sleep. I can’t wait no longer. Surely this contest will be over before I wake up (about 12 hours from now, lol). So, by going by nothing more than a guess I’ll pick 50 Cent: Bulletproof (although, surely given the infomation we know now, the PS3 will sound much better than my guess, lol)

Hi there, I’m a tough guy. (certainly the truth there…)
In my younger days, I once took a bullet (nine to be exact)
and Ive also been on fire. (surely there has to be flamethrowers in this game)
This time around, Im one number away from being evil. (51, like area 51 with those ufo’s)
In my spare time, I enjoy breaking codes. (well, the game wasn’t reviewed very well, so either the scores themselves, or the game code)
Also, Im not a cheap date. (50 cents can sound decieving, until you realize all the bling-bling he has)

Ta da! And the info to make it an official entry:

G’night everyone! I hope for everyone’s sake, this isn’t the answer, lol.

  10. colorninja on December 13th, 2007 5:33 am

Aww…if that rule was in effect earlier, I might have waited for another contest. Oh well. Even if I could enter today’s contest, I can’t figure this out. Good luck guys.

  11. ProtonX on December 13th, 2007 5:51 am

Wow, for stating this was easy, its really hard. lol

  12. lilming on December 13th, 2007 5:52 am

I thought you could play again, according to earlier post:

I’m opening each days contest to everyone… even winners of previous days. I doubt anyone will win twice, but you are all welcome to try.

but he mightve changed his mind.
on-topic i still have no clue, ps3 still sounds the best.

  13. ProtonX on December 13th, 2007 6:12 am

Okay after much thought and being really tired, here is my guess.

    Resident Evil 4

Common enough game for Link to think it would be easy.

Hi there, I’m a tough guy. (Leon)
In my younger days, I once took a bullet (In RE-2 he took one if I remember right)
and Ive also been on fire. (There is burning crap all over RE)
This time around, Im one number away from being evil. (I believe he is infected with the virus or something??? never really got that far)
In my spare time, I enjoy breaking codes. (WTH??? um the game has puzzels and for all i know it could be an obscure fact)
Also, Im not a cheap date. (Dunno, but sure it fits in)

Also Link said a while ago “The truth is, I’m the ultimate Resident Evil fanboy.” So why not?

Lol, well I hope that right.

Here is the Link to a Gamecube auction.

  14. Nimrodil on December 13th, 2007 6:26 am

Hm?? Confused here:-). Can it has something to do with RE4?:

    (guess not)

Oh, shit. Get telephone 20 minutes ago, but just realised (?) I lost again;-) Shoud have updated the comments before I answered.

  17. Link on December 13th, 2007 7:09 am

I’ll add a hint every hour.
Also, Im not a cheap date. = Expensive Auction

colorninja I’m changing the rules so you CAN win twice or even thrice, you just have to only take one prize pack. The other goes back into the pot.

There’s a couple of clues there you can use to build a search string.

  18. ProtonX on December 13th, 2007 7:23 am

Ah dang, that mean I was wrong. Lol good times though.

  19. Nimrodil on December 13th, 2007 7:53 am

One more really far-fetched shot in the dark:

  20. Link on December 13th, 2007 7:54 am

    Nope.

  21. Lyndis on December 13th, 2007 8:21 am

Here’s a wild guess: James Bond.

Hi there, I’m a tough guy. (sure)
In my younger days, I once took a bullet and I’ve also been on fire. (umm, I haven’t really seen any of the movies, but maybe?)
This time around, I’m one number away from being evil. (He’s 007. 008 turned evil, yes?)
In my spare time, I enjoy breaking codes. (uhh, sure)
Also, I’m not a cheap date. (here’s the most expensive auction I could find)

  22. Link on December 13th, 2007 8:37 am

    Nope.

    Hints:

Think, one DIGIT away from evil. Not one number.

In my spare time, I enjoy breaking codes.

Get one number from that and one word.

    Bing. you’ve got the auction.

  23. jason_971 on December 13th, 2007 8:43 am

    I’ll give it a shot…66 games…codebreaker…worth a try

  25. Lyndis on December 13th, 2007 8:46 am

I have no freaking clue, haha. The games I like best don’t involve bullets anyway, so I’d be bad at this…

  26. Link on December 13th, 2007 8:47 am

    STOP!

    jason_971 wins.

    Grats!

  27. Lyndis on December 13th, 2007 8:48 am

Eeh? I can see how that fits with those two clues, but can you explain the others?

  28. jason_971 on December 13th, 2007 8:48 am

    Wow, that is awesome :)

  29. Link on December 13th, 2007 9:45 am

Will do when I do the daily update.

  30. Nimrodil on December 13th, 2007 10:52 am

    congrats!

  31. darkn on December 13th, 2007 11:09 am

I’m assuming the part about it being on fire has to do with this:
    http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/torched-gulf-war-game-boy-still-works-225690.php

  32. colorninja on December 13th, 2007 11:20 am

Link, I think you might need to put a little more thought into these competitions before they go live. Don’t get me wrong; I love that you’re giving away stuff and otherwise this site is done quite well. However, you need a group of people that can Devil’s Advocate your instructions for these contests. The first contest was quite a bit confusing, as there were many ways to interpret when to be the poster. Then there’s the amending the rules about winners a few days in (which I understand but am just a bit frustrated that it wasn’t decided earlier). Add to that this competition where one of your “hints” is really a retraction of part of the clue and the end result is just strange. I mean, I understand that there was that GB that worked after being blown up in the Gulf War, but that wasn’t the GBC’s “younger days”…it was really the GBC’s older brother, eh? Also, the GBC has a reputation for not being so tough, especially compared to the original GB. As for the “hint,” the original clue facilitates the number being 665, 656, 566, 667, 676 or 766, but not just 66.

Just some thoughts. Still love the site, just want to help out.

  33. porschepunk on December 13th, 2007 11:44 am

I disagree. These are contests, not free giveaways! Make one of us fly to Cambodia or something and find the lost treasure of King Mufasa for the next contest.. haha. Good contest today, and congrats jason. Cant wait until tomorrow!!!

  34. colorninja on December 13th, 2007 11:52 am

    Haha, porschepunk.

By the way, I’m pretty sure that, under that new rule, you’d have to give up your flash cart to get the magazines.

  35. jason_971 on December 13th, 2007 12:17 pm

It took me about 2 1/2 hours of searching to find the auction, but I did, so it was a difficult contest, not a “bad” one. I think it was well done, it took over 6 1/2 hours for the contest to be won. I think I speak for most when I say we don’t want a contest that is over in 2 minutes because the clues were too good. You have to work for it and do some serious thinking, Thank you all for the congrats :)

  36. colorninja on December 13th, 2007 12:21 pm

Oh, I agree that it shouldn’t be easy. I’m definitely not saying that. I’m just saying that there are a few wording issues that bouncing the stuff off friends or something would help with.

I’m definitely not saying it should be simple. Definitely not. I liked this contest. I’m just saying that it would’ve been better if Link would have realized he needed to say digit instead of number originally, and not later as a hint. I wouldn’t have gotten it anyway, but I think that there might have been people that had already submitted their answer that would have benefited from the clarification.

  37. tyhana on December 13th, 2007 1:31 pm

Congrats jason_971! Your brain power is superior to all of us!

  38. porschepunk on December 13th, 2007 2:01 pm
